Saturday, February 18, 2017 marked the first CCOP Anti-Police Terror Open House Conference, one of several such conferences planned for 2017. We accomplished our goal of gathering many organizations and members of different communities to share their experiences with police brutality in New York City.
As one of the event organizers explained, “There is an urgent need for a united front to organize, mobilize and strategize our communities against police violence.”
From the night’s first presentation in which Zulu Nation asked for volunteers to play out different scenarios on surviving police encounters, to the moving testimonies of Parents Against Police Brutality which closed out the conference, this first Open House proved to be an engaging, mixed-media expression of communal demands and resistance.
Particular shout outs to the performers from Truthworker for excerpting from their theatre piece ‘BAR CODE’ bringing the claustrophobic nightmare of the school-to-prison pipeline to life for us with such vivid honesty, providing the night’s poignant subject matter with much welcome youthful energy and dance.
It would take pages to adequately acknowledge all the groups who came out. Your contributions are truly appreciated. Please see the list of sponsors and participants. If you are interested in getting involved please contact us.
All Power to the People,
